Deacon Dawn McNamara

Vocational Deacon
Dawn McNamara

Hello!

I feel so blessed at this moment as I think back on the celebration this weekend and what lies ahead as a Deacon at St. James the Less.

First,  a little bit about me.   I am a native North Carolinian and have l lived in the Richmond area since the age of nine when my father was transferred with his job.

A graduate of Longwood University in 1987 with a degree in Social Work, I have been a medical social worker in nursing facilities and hospitals.  I am currently Director of Social Services at Westport Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

I married Dan McNamara in 2001 and we are blessed to have a son, Thomas, who has just begun his freshman year at Virginia Tech.  Dan has decided to stay at Grace and Holy Trinity as he serves on the current vestry and is Director for the Acolyte program.

As hobbies I like to read,  watch “Eastenders” (a British soap), knit and needle point.  I also like to nap and spend time with my mother who is 93 and living in her home in Sandston with my to brothers who are her primary caregivers.

As we journey ahead together where faith leads us,  there will be more to share.  Sharing is so important to faith.  Jesus shared his life and taught will power the message of servanthood to God, to each other,  and to the world around.
