Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. -Psalm 95:1

About the Music Ministry

In the Episcopal Church, our theology is found in two places: the Book of Common Prayer and in our hymnals. The texts of our hymns and the anthems sung by the choirs serve to support the readings of the day and to emphasize the seasons of the liturgical year.

As an integral part of worship, Saint James the Less enjoys the rich talents of many as singers, handbell ringers, and instrumentalists throughout the year. In keeping with the rich tradition and musical heritage of the Episcopal Church, this ministry endeavors to offer learning opportunities for all who participate in the program.

Our Singing Choirs

The PARISH CHOIR rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 and Sunday mornings at 9:20am. This Choir provides the primary musical leadership for worship for the 10am services throughout the program year (Sept-June) plus a few special services. This choir is open to singers 9th grade and up. All that is required is a love of singing and the willingness and ability to participate in rehearsals. We sing a wide variety of repertoire that includes church music dating from the late Renaissance through the 21st century.

Our Bell Choir

The HANDBELL CHOIR rehearses on Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 6:45. We play several times throughout the program year. This is a fun and happy group of people who enjoy making music. An ability to read music at an elementary level is helpful but not required.

Our Children's Choir

We have two very active children's choirs! The CHERUB CHOIR is open to children for Kindergarten to 2nd grade and the ST. CECILIA CHOIR is open to children grades 3 – 5. This choir rehearses on Sunday mornings at the beginning of Sunday School and sings several times throughout the year at the 10 am service.
