Welcome

Mom & two kids

At St. James the Less, EVERYONE is welcome. Our joy is in making God’s love tangible to each other, to our community and to the world. We come together regularly at the altar to receive that which strengthens our faith and resolve that it is so. A variety of worship opportunities allow our fellowship to give thanks for blessings great and small.

We gather with others to worship God. We hear the life-rescuing Good News of Jesus Christ, give thanks and praise, and, finally, offer our brokenness to our loving God. We believe as we break bread, we come into communion with God in a profound and life-changing way. It is through the Holy Spirit that we are made one body, the body of Christ sent forth into the world to live the Way of Love.

Our Response to COVID

We have just started coming back to indoor worship on Sundays at 8am & 10am.

Increasing numbers of our members are vaccinated. However, we cannot and will not be asking for anyone’s vaccination status, be aware of the risk inherent with a public gathering and please DO NOT attend if feeling ill. We will be cleaning between services to ensure safety for all. Masks are REQUIRED indoors to protect those in our congregation who are unable to get vaccinated or are not yet fully vaccinated.

Why do we mask?  We need to maintain a culture of mask-wearing, even for the vaccinated, because:

  • We are an "all-ages community," and not all ages have been able to get vaccinated yet.
  • We are an "all-abilities community." and some of us have immune systems that don't have the ability to tolerate a COVID vaccination or infection.
  • We are an "all-inclusive community," and we want to express our values by being able to include all, regardless of vaccination status.

We want to model good behavior for the benefit of all who might want to be in the building going forward.

We have modified our current schedule as follows. We have all of our services live on Facebook and will post Sunday morning and Contemplative services to YouTube following. Stay tuned as we start to ease back into meeting together in person as the state and Diocese allow.

Join us at 7:30am Wednesday for Eucharist: Rite II in person or online by clicking here. Afterward you can join Father Rock and other Parishioners for coffee and conversation in Brydon Hall.

Join us Sunday morning at 10am for worship here.

If you can't join us live-time, no worries. All of these services can be viewed at your convenience afterward on Facebook. All our Sunday morning and Contemplative services will be posted on our YouTube Channel, "St. James the Less Ashland VA." You can access that here.

How Do I Dress?

We are an informal church community. Dress is typically casual but you will feel comfortable in anything from jeans to a suit and tie or a dress.

What Do the Kids Do?

Typically, St James the Less has programs for both children and youth on Sunday mornings. For our very young children and infants, there is childcare downstairs. Also, the Youth Group meets on Sundays at 6pm.  The Nursery provides an enjoyable time for infants and children during the 9 am Christian Education period and the 10 am Sunday service of worship. A nursery worker and 1-2 volunteer adults/parents staff the Nursery during this time. For more information or to volunteer, contact the church office or call (804) 798-6336.  We are hoping to get this back into full swing in the fall.
